ASME FAQ - 7. ASME Section VIII Div.1 (4)

국제 공인기구인 ASME (The American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 미국기계학회)에서 제공하는 ASME 인증은 세계적으로 인정받는 ASME 기술 요건에 따라 기자재가 설계, 제작, 설치되었다는 것을 증명하는 엄격한 품질보증 제도입니다. 미국 수출품에 대한 강제 인증 제도이자 여러 국가에서 사용하고 있는 산업 표준으로 자리하고 있습니다.

APAVE KOREA(아파브 코리아)는 ASME 공인검사기관(AIA)으로 그동안 기존 고객사에서 빈번하게 질문하는 내용 중 ASME Section VIII, Division 1, U-1(e)(1)에 관련된 질문에 대한 답변을 정리해 보았습니다.

ASME Scope은 어디까지인가요?

[U-1(e)(1)]

(e) In relation to the geometry of pressure-containing parts, the scope of this Division shall include the following:

(1) where external piping, other pressure vessels, or mechanical devices are to be connected to the vessel:

(-a) the welding end connection for the first circumferential joint for welded connections

(-b) the first threaded joint for screwed connections

(-c) the face of the first flange for bolted, flanged connections

(-d) the first sealing surface for proprietary connections or fittings

ASME Sec. VIII, Div. 1의 범위(scope) 관련 조항 U-1(e)(1) 적용에 있어, 노즐의 경우 일반적으로 플랜지면(flange face)까지가 ASME 범위에 해당하는 것으로 여기는 경우가 많습니다.

하지만 상기 (-c) 조항은 slip-on flange와 long welding neck flange에 해당되는 것입니다. Welding neck type의 경우, 상기 (-a) 조항이 적용되어 노즐의 첫 번째 원주 이음(circumferential joint/girth seam)까지만 ASME 범위에 해당됩니다. 즉, welding neck flange는 ASME 범위에 해당되지 않습니다. 그뿐만 아니라 노즐-to-플랜지 용접부조차 해당되지 않습니다.

기존에는 플랜지는 당연히 플랜지면까지가 ASME 범위라 여겨왔기 때문에, 많은 분들이 생소하게 받아들였습니다. 이에 대한 근거로 제시할 수 있는 ASME Interpretation을 살펴보면 다음과 같습니다.

Question: An aluminum weld neck flange is welded to a nozzle neck of an aluminum vessel, constructed to the rules of Section VIII, Division 1. May the Manufacturer exclude the weld neck flange and joining weld from the scope of Division 1, i.e., U-1(e)(1), if they are properly described on the vessel drawing and the Manufacturer's Data Report Form?
Reply: Yes.
Interpretation Number: VIII-1-95-52

 

Question: A nozzle for a piping connection to a Section VIII, Division 1 vessel consists of a nozzle neck joined by a butt weld to a section of piping which is joined by another butt weld to a welding neck flange. May the vessel Manufacturer include the section of piping and the welding neck flange in his construction, but exclude the section of piping, the welding neck flange, and their joining welds from the Scope of this Division?
Reply: Yes. See U-1(e)(1)(a).

National Board 자료에서도 근거를 찾을 수 있지만, ASME Interpretation은 ASME의 공식적인 답변이기 때문에 이를 우선적으로 제시하였습니다.

마지막으로 제조자 (Manufacturer)는 MDR (Manufacturer's Data Report)의 remark 란에 작업은 했으나, ASME 범위에서 배제한 부분들을 기재하여주는 것이 적절합니다. 또한, U-1(e)(1)은 해당 용기가 외부 배관 (external piping) 또는 다른 압력용기 또는 기계장치 등과 연결(connecting) 되는 경우에 대한 조항이기 때문에 맨홀 (manhole), 핸드 홀 (handhole), 배출구 (drain/vent hole) 등과 같은 자체에 한정된 노즐에는 해당되지 않음을 주의하시기 바랍니다.
